What movies are YOU going to???

Lots of movies have rape scenes in them.I personally haven't seen it, but I have heard that The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has rape scenes in it, which supposedly is a fairly popular movie.

Why else would you go to a movie...?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well if you ever watched Last House on the Left it has a rape scene, and if you ever watched Boys Dont Cry they have a rape scene....besides some movies are really good but then they show a fucking rape scene

I thought movies were supposed to be depictions of real life, or at least real human emotions and actions, not just bunny rabbits and unicorns frolicking in a field full of rainbows. Rape, however much we dislike it, is a regula occurance, so of course they're gonna show it adult in movies. You might as well say they should stop showing death scenes.

I've seen several good movies that include rape scenes that are kind of important to the plot and character development. If you don't want to see rape scenes, don't go to movies that have them.

A great example is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

That's the first movie that came to mind when I saw this post. Had we not seen the horrific things that Lisbeth went through, it would have been very difficult to understand why she was the way she was.

Yes. Let's censor every movie that contains a rape scene because it annoys some people who could've easily just looked away, walked out, or not seen the movie at all.

I think there should be a system or website for trigger warnings for movies without having to also read spoilers. Every movie containing a highly traumatic event (rape, shootings, choking, etc.) could be put on a website and you could see what the trigger warning was for. It wouldn't matter much for the general population, but for someone who's been raped or has PTSD it could make a world of difference. By no means should those scenes be censored full stop.

They should show rape scenes, with the exception of if it is fetish-fuel or played for laughs, which is inexcusable. These issues need to be brought to the public eye as the atrocities they are. People throw the word "rape" around like it's nothing, it's clear that what it actually is just doesn't compute with a lot of people. That said, there should be rape trigger warnings on them. Imagine being a rape victim and then being surprised in an otherwise innocuous movie by a rape scene... it'd be a pretty horrible reminder for them. Movies should have warnings beforehand if they include rape scenes.

Before a movie is screened, it includes a rating with a reason for the rating. For example, if you watch The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, you will see a warning before the movie starts that says "Rated R for brutal violent content including rape and torture, strong sexuality, graphic nudity, and language" And if you don't want to have to walk out of a movie you payed to see, you can look up movie ratings on imdb
