Correct. Atheism is a singular belief, not a belief system. Therefore, atheists will believe in and do a wide range of things. This makes the generalization unfair, which would explain why some people are "butthurt" as you say. However, religion IS a belief system that all it's followers must conform to. This is why mockery of religious practices bears at least some truth. But for the record, no one's belief is above mockery or criticism.

Atheists do in fact have only one belief, that there is no supernatural deity. The mockery isn't unexpected at all; of course people will bite back when you challenge their beliefs. However, these attempts at mockery are laughably baseless. It CAN be argued however, that the church is vile organization for harboring and protecting child molesters from prosecution, or that the hatefulness of some can be attributed to religious texts. See the difference? One form of mockery is satire, and the other is just stereotyping without a grain of truth to back it up.
