Thought pwned was short for 'pistol owned,' making it even more of an ownage cause you got killed with a pistol instead of a powerful/automatic primary weapon. O.o
It's a typo, a frequent typo... just like teh, liek, and a multitude of others. I used to be annoyed by people using them, but then I realized... if you don't use them too much, and if it's also obvious that you *can* spell when you choose to, those versions of words can be entertaining and also carry more emphasis than the correct version. So sometimes it's ok to talk like an lolcat xD

I believe it was originally a typo in a video game?

Personally I heard it comes from 'pawned' as in Chess, from being the easiest and first to kill. Then shorted down to pwned.

Nope, came from a typo in a computer game. People were trying to say "owned" but ended up saying "pwned".

Yeah, but if that were the case, it would be powned, not pwned, because that is how it sounds out.

And how Heroes so easily becomes something else.
It was pretty awkward when I asked my friend if she had caught the new "herpes"...

Nigahiga's video on YouTube explains the origins pretty well.

I was just going to suggest the nigahiga video...
Apparently it means "Perfect Own" which makes more sense then a typo...
