Why is it that when a pregnant woman is murdered it is considered a double murder for her and her baby, but abortion is not considered murder even though it has the same result? People need to make up their minds, amirite?

It's only a double murder once she's reached a certain stage in the pregnancy, I believe. I'm pretty sure it's when she's at the point that the baby could be born prematurely with a chance of survival.

I thought a fetus doesn't count at all because some think that it should not count as a person

I'm not sure how the law is here. Clearly it's a foggy area because of all the debating.

he's right, but the real question is, "what if they get an abortion when the baby is at that stage?"

It's illegal to get an abortion when the baby is at that stage.

It's always illegal, but laws aren't always followed. In fact, less than a year ago the arrested a doctor who had done hundreds of abortions within weeks of the many mothers' due dates.

In the state I live in, late term abortions are legal, as are all the earlier types.

Legally, it is only considered a double murder if it can be proved that the baby took his/her first breathe before dying. This is because, under the law, the baby isn't an actual person until it has taken its first breathe. This doesn't make me very happy.

This is actually a really good point, I've never thought of it like that.

Well, don't forget this part. Abortion is not considered murder because it's the womans choice. The mother gets to decide whether or not to keep her baby. The choice is not left up to some random psycho murderer. If she was going to keep the baby, and someone ELSE gets rid of it, then thats murder, because it wasn't HER choosing to abort. You see? :)

So she's allowed to kill her baby and it's not called murder?

Is still murder how I look at it..maybe they made the mistake of not using protection but that doesn't mean your suppose to take the fetus away just cause you want to cover up your own mistakes.

Actually, in the majority of unplanned pregnancies, the parents DO use protection. Condoms and birth control are not 100% effective, even when used together.
There are also cases of rape, which are in no way the mother's fault.

I reckon it's a choice as far as abortion goes.. & they indeed need to make up their mind. Unless the baby was alive, I don't think it should be considered double murder.

what you say kind of makes sense, but the real question isn't whether its murder if the baby is alive. the real question that people can't agree on is what defines a baby or fetus as "alive". the catholic church says that life begins at conception, i only know that because i went to catholic school. obviously the government defines life in a different way, because abortion is not considered murder.

If people think abortion is wrong, they should think masturbation is too.
Abortion=not letting a baby live
Masturbation= not letting sperm into a women so a baby can live.
I think they should allow abortion.

(Think 'bout it): personally i think masturbation is wrong, but that's not the reason. i don't think it's nearly as bad as abortion. abortion isn't just not letting a baby live, it's killing a baby.

i think abortion is wrong, because a women is makeing a choice for 2 people, not just herself. I'm pretty sure the baby doesn't want to be killed. And plus, you can't say "Well its her body, her choice," because it's not just her body, it's another as well. And all those arguing for abortion, how would you feel if your mother had gotten an abortion? Oh wait, that's right, you wouldn't. Because you'd be dead.
