+63 When a person decides to quit smoking or doing drugs, the people around them are happy and supportive, but it's like they forgot that they even started in the first place, amirite?

It's much harder to give it up than not to have ever done them, thus it needs support. They are also probably relieved they're taking action in their life.

Obviously starting them was a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes. If someone is willing to take the initiative to try to change, throw away the past and help them on their way. Dwelling on what got the habit started in the first place is in no way helpful
