I was going for 117 peas, but you beat me by 32 minutes. ;)

Plenty of people have scales in their kitchen. You can't use "number of pieces" because food isn't always in a perfectly uniform size.

I have literally never heard about someone not having a scale in their kitchen

by Minnie45 4 weeks ago

I don't have one. Not that unusual either for people who don't do a lot of baking.

I don't bake but I bought a scale for calorie counting - they're super cheap nowadays.

My wife has a history of an eating disorder so I can't have a food scale in my home. I actually don't know anyone with a scale in their kitchen either

Weird way to say you don't understand units of measurement.

There's no reason they can't make their portion size as number of pieces. I'm sure this could work well for pasta

Geeze. Make a good guess. Portion is 4 oz and whole bag or whatever is 16 oz. The portion is about a quarter of the whole thing. Unless you're baking, why are you getting hung up on precision? Would you count the number of noodles or rice? Or grains of salt? Leafs of parsley?

Dude, they are like $12 on Amazon. Do we need to start a GoFundMe? If you are going to count calories then a kitchen scale is a must.

I mean, apart from maybe the bathroom, where else would you have a scale? Do you never bake anything at home?

i bake but i don't weigh anything

by lilyan63 4 weeks ago

nutrition label says a portion size is 4 ounces. How are you supposed to measure that? It also tells you the total weight of the package, for example 12oz. So you'd then know that 1 serving is 1/3 of the total package. There's no reason they can't make their portion size as number of pieces. Sure there is, things you mentioned like chicken, fries, pasta and veggies are not all exactly the same size, and may vary in size from package to package. So using weight is much more accurate.

Buy a scale, they're cheap and also fairly common.

Nutritional labels based on portion sizes are indeed stupid, but not because no one has a scale in the kitchen. Anybody who doesn't work with the nonsensical 'Murican 'cups' has a scale in the kitchen.

i cook and i don't have a scale

by lilyan63 4 weeks ago

Everybody has a scale in their kitchen. The pieces vary in size.
