Schindler's list came out the same year as Mrs. Doubtfire. Guess which one made more money.

by maudie96 1 week ago

I know which one I hope made more money.

There's no way you compared a movie designed to bring joy to Schindler's List. People don't watch Schindler's List to smile.

Well, not nice people anyway

Fun fact in the movie, Matel has 12 members of the Board of Directors are all men. In real life, The Matel Board of Directors is six men and six women.

I went into it with high expectations because everyone talked about how hilarious it was, but I only laughed out loud twice. Once for the "beach off" bit, and the other was the misdirect at the end when you think she's going to a job interview but it's actually the gynecologist.

And what would that "real literature" be?

You're spot on, I can't sit through most movies. Even the old B movies were better. YouTube has tons of free film noir movies now, even trash 1970's movies are better than today's not attention span junk

I just watched the Barbie movie and it was asinine. finally, someone agrees with me!

by Aheidenreich 1 week ago

I'm not big into conspiracies, but I have a hard time denying that there's a hidden agenda, especially when it comes to Hollywood. I have never seen a movie so heavily advertised EVER like Barbie was. It seemed like every store, streaming service, and everywhere else was advertising for it.

by Particular-Hat 1 week ago

What exactly is the conspiracy theory here? They were advertising a movie. Heavily, because it was also a commercial for the toys and accessories related to the movie. They could sell anything pink if they slapped Barbie onto it. It was heavily advertised because they saw it could be heavily profitable.

by maudie96 1 week ago

The advertisement wasn't that constant on my end. You have to remember there's algorithms that adverts track to try and be trailered to you. So, if you interacted with Barbie anything consistently enough… whereas someone like me, that has a middle of the road opinion/level of interest, would not see as much of those adverts. Not enough for it to seem that invasive to me, anyway.

Of course it is . Its a celebration of the truly mediocre and superficial. I called with the rise of reality stars people that have no actual ability be lauded for just existing and engaging in the worst behavior. As a society we always had socialites and people famous for being rich and well connected. But the minute they were placed as the zenith of popular culture. You know longer had to have any real talent or ability just act as outlandish as possible . The plots of tv shows and movies are so dumbed down or flushed with fast action and CGI. I figured it was to appeal to big international audiences now I wonder if it is because they figure we as a people cannot understand or handle much else
