no that's not true. the object that appears red absorbs colors that aren't red and reflects red. but absorbing a color doesn't mean that the object is that color. the color of an object is defined as what color it reflects instead

Basically when you see red it's because the object is throwing back red light at your eyes everything else gets absorbed so it's not really red just not holding onto that color
