Actually revenge is very important. Without revenge anyone can do anything they want. Revenge is keeping people scared of hurting others, because they know that they themselves will be hurt in return. Not doing the revenge signals that you can be hurt without consequences. In human history this has been a very big thing, your safety is largely the fact that your family will avenge you in case someone harms you. There is no police always to take care of you and wipe your ass. We are slowly forgetting our human past, but our body still remembers.

He hit you, now you might feel happy to hit back. But you normalize hitting and spread negativity. Self Defense is not revenge. If someone is attacking you, there is no de-escalation at that point.

Let's say there is a guy who bullies you at school/work. The first day, he hits you. You just ignore it and smile. The second day, he hits you again. You just smile and walk away. Now this continues on for 2-3 months. Will you still just smile and walk away or will you try to hit back or take revenge?
