amirite? is your place to share your opinions about life, love, people and anything else you want. People will vote and comment on what you post to let you know if they agree or disagree.
Anybody is free to create an account and start posting. You don't need an account to vote on posts.
Making an account brings amirite to life! You become part of our fast growing community. As well as now being able to make posts and comments, you'll be able to take credit for all the posts you make - you'll start to build up your 'average score', which shows just how right you really are. You'll be able to follow people whose posts you like as well as favouriting any posts you like.
With an account you're able to create your profile and set an avatar. This allows you to enter the social side of amirite by being able to send messages to other users and join groups.
You'll be able to take part in the most exciting feature of amirite: our new achievements system. You get awards for using pretty much every part of amirite - from making good posts to being a regular in the chat room.
Creating an account takes less than a minute and lets you access everything amirite has to offer!
Each post has two buttons at the bottom: "Yeah You Are!" and "No Way". If you agree with what the person has said, click "Yeah You Are!". If you disagree, click "No Way". The score shown next to each post is the number of "Yeah You Are"s minus the number of "No Way"s. To make a post just click 'add your own' and write what you want. You don't need to create an account or even give your name. Just post something original.
Every post should be a question that people can answer yes or no to. Your post should be an opinion; you're asking the reader if they agree with you.
For the most part, you are free to post whatever you want. But we do have a few rules:
If you don't follow these rules your post may be removed by a moderator. If you see a post that doesn't follow these rules, you can report it to a moderator by clicking the red flag.
The home page showcases the best posts on the site. A new post appears on the home page roughly every 10 minutes.
It's not a simple case of picking posts with the highest score to be on the home page; a post can be something that people disagree with while still being interesting. That's why we invented the 'home page button': . When you're logged in, you'll see this icon on posts that are not already on the home page. With this you can vote for a post to be on the home page. But choose wisely because you only get 50 home page votes per day. When a post reaches a certain number of home page votes, it will appear on the home page.
Moderators are also always on the look out for posts to be on the home page that are thought-provoking, interesting, or just plain funny. The more home page votes a post have, the quicker a moderator will see it!
The Post of the Day is the very first post you see when you come to amirite, so we try to make it something that really shows what amirite is all about. The post of the day is picked by the admins of the site usually a few days in advance. If you see a post that you think would make an excellent post of the day, please do contact us with your suggestion.
When Does The Post Of The Day Change?
Amirite works on UK time, so the post of the day changes at these times:
Groups are a new way to find the type of posts that are just right for you. Every group is a collection of posts related to the same category, be it a hobby, a country, a food, the choice is yours! Groups are created by you, the amirite community.
Groups can be used to organize your posts. They're also a good way to find other people who share the same interests as you. You can join a group to have posts from that group appear on your home page. You can also use the group message board to talk to all of the group members. You can add any of your posts to an open group or a group you are a member of at any time. This includes your old posts. You can also remove your post from a group at any time. You can put a post in up to 3 groups.
You can add your post to a group or remove it at any to. To do this, first hover your mouse over the post. A blue button will appear in the bottom right.

Start typing the name of a group and all the groups with that name will come up.

Click on a group name to add your post to that group.

Any registered user can make a group. All you need to do is go to 'Create A Group' in the menu, pick a name for your group and tell us what it is about. Each group is checked out by an admin before it is created. We'll send you an email and a notification when it is approved or rejected. (Remember to check your Junk Mail folder if you don't see the email). There are no limits to how many groups you can create, so get your creativity on.
An important rule to remember when you come up with the idea for your group is that groups are about the type of posts that go in them, not the people that join them. For example, a group called 'America' would have posts about America in it. Whereas a group called 'Americans' saying "join if you're American" is not okay.
When you create a Group, you automatically become the owner. Owners can also be appointed to a group by the original owner. Group owners have the ability to control all aspects of a group. They can change settings, accept and remove members, delete messages and add or remove other owners. You can see who the owners of a group are from the Members tab.
There are four different types of group. Owners have the ability to change their group type.
You have to be a member to send messages to the group no matter what type of group it is.
The Group Of The Week is a group that is specially chosen every week and featured on the home page of amirite. We encourage you to read posts in that group and make posts on that topic throughout the week. If you're stuck of ideas for posts, the Group Of The Week should give some inspiration!
Sometimes the Group Of The Week will be topical, and other times it will be chosen by a poll on our Facebook Fan Page. We'll also be picking the most active and most interesting groups. If you have a suggestion for Group Of The Week, we're listening! Send it in using the Contact page.
The amirite? chat room is a great place to talk to and get to know other amirite users. The topic is anything you want. At the top of your screen you'll see the newest posts as they come in and we encourage you to discuss those.
The first time you go to the chat room, you'll be given a name automatically generated by the chat. On the list of people on the right, you'll be at the top and look something like this:

You should click on your name and change it to your amirite username like this:

You'll also notice that the icon next to your name is green. This means that you are a 'guest' in the chat. Guests are unable to post links and will be kicked if you say too much in a short period, but you are able to talk. Once you start talking, a moderator will make you a 'member' and your icon will change to blue. That will look like this:

The restrictions are now lifted.
To some people the chat room appears quite daunting at first, but just remember that everybody there is an amirite user like yourself. All you need to do is say "hi".
People with red icons in the user list are offline, but have been online on the chat recently.
If you need help, the people with white icons are moderators and the people with orange icons are admins. You can tell them about any trouble you're having.
You can now! You can use these styles in posts, comments, messages, about me and group descriptions.
